Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan , who was admitted to Leelavati Hospital in Mumbai following abdominal pain, is suffering from colitis, according to hospital sources.

The 63-year-old actor underwent various tests since yesterday and was found to be “suffering from inflammation in the colon or the large intestine”, hospital spokesperson Narendra Trivedi said.

However, he is stable, Trivedi said, adding that the family doctor Jayant Barve will examine him tonight and then decide whether the treatment will be given in the hospital or at home.

Bachchan has been kept under observation, and will be resting in the hospital, the sources said.

The actor was first admitted to Escorts Hospital in Delhi on Monday from where he was flown in to Mumbai last evening.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Bachchan’s son Abhishek Bachchan visited him at Leelavati Hospital at Bandra Tuesday morning.
