Did you always dream of making it big in Bollywood?

I was 22, had just finished my TY BCom, and didn’t know what to do. So I joined our film company and assisted for six months. I had no plans of acting. However, my uncle (Mahesh Bhatt) soon pushed me into it, saying ‘give it a try’.

You portray the ‘bad boy’ on screen. Were you as naughty as a child?

Yes, I was naughty, but also brilliant (laughs).

Why do all the hot and steamy scenes end up in your kitty?

This industry is full of scared people. Once a particular actor clicks in an erotic role, people assume it clicked because of eroticism, which is untrue. But there are times when you have to play along.

Are you happy with the ‘best on-screen kisser’ tag?

It has come with a lot of positive things too. I have achieved a lot because of the image. I’m sure I will break out of the image, but it will take time. I know I will click with or without such scenes.

So is your would-be-wife ‘cool’ about you doing them?

She hates me in such roles. And that’s also a reason I want to break out of the image. I feel it is important for people around you to be happy too. And life does not start and end with films.

Who’s been your favourite female co-star till date?

All of them. They’re all great actresses and great women, from whom I’ve learnt a lot.

And what do you have to say about your ex co-star Mallika Sherawat?

Nothing.

Don’t you feel lucky to have been one of the first male actors to have starred opposite her?

Not really.

Does the lack of privacy bother you?

I’ll find a way to go out, maybe even wear a burkha. It’s a great disguise, I think I’ll do that.
