Sultry beauty Lisa Ray may have mesmerised many with her green eyes and hourglass figure, but the model-turned-actress failed to make a career in Bollywood. Ask her that and she quips, “Why should I work for Bollywood? I never belonged to the industry. In fact, I was flattered when film producers approached me with roles as my knowledge of Hindi is poor. Plus, my looks are very non-Indian.�


Lisa has just finished Deepa Mehta’s Water and is excited about her role. “It was a great experience. Deepa is a director with a lot of passion and commitment,� she adds. This is the second time Lisa has worked with Mehta. Her first movie with the director was Bollywood Hollywood. Considering the sensitive subject of widows in the film Water, was she afraid of criticism from Hindu fundamentalists? “I believe in the film. And I am not bothered about what others say,� she says.
