Bollywood icons Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan will represent Delhi as its brand ambassadors at the closing function of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games later this year.

Delhi will be showcased as the next venue for the Commonwealth Games at the concluding ceremony of the Melbourne Games.

The Bollywood stars will welcome the world to the Commonwealth Games to be hosted by the Indian Capital in 2010 to the tunes of a foot-tapping theme song penned by noted lyricist Gulzar .

In keeping with the theme for the 2010 Games of ‘New Frontiers and New Friendships’, Gulzar has written the song, which will bring to a crescendo the musical extravaganza to be presented at the closing ceremony Melbourne Games on March 26.

A presentation of the plan for the 11-minute capsule that will showcase Delhi’s heritage and culture was made to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister said the idea is to showcase Delhi and tell the world that the Capital is ready to welcome you (Commonwealth Games 2010).

“With some two billion people estimated to watch the proceedings live on television worldwide and the Delhi Government is planning to present to them a slice of the city’s lifestyle and culture at the Melbourne Games 2006,” she said.

Present at the presentation were Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi and Gulzar himself. Delhi Urban Development Minister AK Walia and Chief Secretary S Reghunathan were also present.

The music-composing trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have been finalised to set the theme song, that goes ‘Dilli Chalna Hai, Chalna Hai, Chal, Chal, Chal, Chalna Hai’, to music and the musical presentation will begin with introduction of the Delhi Games Mascot ‘Shera’, followed by a bhangra performance by the Punjabi pop singer Sukhwinder Singh .
