Akshaye Khanna has marriage on his mind…

Akshaye Khanna
After 36 China Town, what’s keeping 31-year-old Akshaye Khanna occupied?
Apart from Dharmesh Darshan’s Aap Ki Khatir, and Anil Kapoor’s Mahatma Vs Gandhi, the elusive actor says he’s toying with the idea of marriage.

It’s time now

“I intend to get married and settle down as soon as I find someone suitable, he says. Is he dating somebody? “No, I’m not seeing anyone right now. I’m waiting for the right person to come along, says Khanna.

Ask him about socialising with women at high profile parties, and he reveals, “I’m not comfortable at parties. I’m shy and reserved, have my own space, and love it that way.

In my leisure time, I watch movies, do a bit of reading and play squash and swim. I ensure that I watch at least five movies a week. Which are his favourites? “The list keeps changing. As of now, I quite liked House of Sand and Fog, The Constant Gardener and Walk The Line.

Choice of roles

Akshaye remains dissatisfied, even after winning accolades for his rendition as a suave cop in Abbas-Mustan’s 36 China Town. “I’m quite self-critical. I always feel there’s room for improvement. However, I’m glad that I picked up the cop’s role when I was offered a choice.

Over the years, he has earned a reputation for being choosy and finicky. “I’m not someone who wants to spend time at home. Ideally, I would want to work 365 days a year. But my first parameter for any film offered to me is that it must excite me.

The actor has already landed another Abbas-Mustan film. “There’s something in the pipeline. When it comes to Abbas-Mustan, it’s always a pleasure. I would shoot for them at any day or hour of the week. We’re very fond of each other. But the script and subject are yet to be finalised.

Debuted too young

About his journey so far, Akshaye says, “I feel blessed. I made mistakes, and learnt my lesson. But if there’s one thing that I could change, it would be my debut performance in Himalay Putra. I shot for the film when I was 19. Ideally, I should have started acting a little later.

But I had an instinctive understanding of myself from a very early age. I knew that only being an actor would make me happy.

Is he spiritually inclined, like father Vinod Khanna? “Yes, I’m spiritually inclined; I believe in God, but not in organised religion. I don’t follow any particular faith.

Organised holiday

Akshaye is planning a summer break soon. “I’ll be travelling across Europe and USA with a bunch of close friends. I love to see new places, but I’m not a travel freak. For me, any vacation or short trip must be organised, with proper hotel and travel bookings, he says.
