It’s a catch-22 situation. Either you have the big stars, a ‘formula’ script and big daddy directors; or you take on newer stars and simply ‘sex-up’ the scripts. So what’s the modus operandi? Well, take a raw Mallika Sherawat - throw in a bikini, several smooches and hey presto- you have a sizzler of a story. Ditto for ‘Jism’, ‘Raaz’ and the recent ‘Souten’. Here, we look at some sexed up stories that made (or reinvented) stars.

Jism
Jism
‘Jism’ explores the darker side of a woman - a subject that is alien territory for Bollywood, a genre that has rarely been attempted.

It is a contemporary film which tries to be different. It also is an example of the generous use of sex for making the story saleable and Bipasha Basu a sex goddess.

Raaz
raaz
‘Raaz’ is a supernatural thriller that takes the viewer by his hesitant hand and leads him through a series of suspenseful occurrences.

It reflects a fascination for Hitchcock’s classic thrillers ‘Rear Window’ and ‘Psycho’. The movie chauvinistically used sex to prop up the horror aspect.

On a rainy day, Simran (Mallika Sherawat) bumps into an old buddy, Sunny (Emraan Hashmi). This brings back memories of the past: Sunny and Simran had been in love before they got married.

But destiny had something else in store for them. The two get into an extra marital fling and there you have the plot for this much publicised ‘sexed up’ prototype.
