teesri ankhTeesri Aankh… The Hidden Camera * *
Dir: Harry Baweja
Cast: Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel

What’s it about: Yet another film about the blue film racket, only this time, it features a host of popular actors. The story is clearly inspired by real-life incidents, and therefore is probably reason enough for storywriter and director Harry Baweja to spin an obvious story around it.

Sapna (Neha Dhupia) is an ambitious young girl, engaged to super cop ACP Arjun Singh (Sunny Deol), who takes off to participate in a beauty contest but is also naïve enough to fall prey to Sadanadh Pandey, the guy who controls the blue film racket in India from London.

Playing supporting villains are small-timers Danish and Danish, who while playing second fiddle to Pandey, also dream of ruling the racket themselves.

The duo convinces Sapna to accumulate recorded proof against Pandey in return for her own film.

Though Sapna’s clever enough to manage that, all she gets as a reward is death.

The witness to all this is Ammu (Ameesha Patel) who is speech-impaired. Here begins Ammu’s struggle for survival, as everybody assumes she’s got proof against Pandey. Then arrives ACP Arjun Singh, the saviour. Arjun’s search for his fiancée lead him to Ammu.

What’s hot: The film’s tailor-made for Sunny Deol fans. The action scenes are pretty cool at times, but there are many which cannot be classified as technically sound. Ameesha Patel is her sweet self and does well in her role of a street-smart girl who cannot speak. Neha Dhupia has a small but pivotal role.

What’s not: Teesri Aankh lacks a tight script. The film fails to convey a story that has loads of potential in spite of the fact that it has already been told.

The songs are totally uncalled for. The icing is the one sung by Jazzy B that features Ameesha (her only number here) in bits only because he imagines her dancing along to his tunes, while she’s actually running for her life. This is an attempt to make a film based on the fight against exploitation of women.

What to do:
Watch it to see how real life finds a mirror on celluloid. We may not agree with the treatment, but subjects like these need to be addressed.
