Heard of Mimoh Chakraborty? At first glance, he looks like any other Bollywood hunk. Look closely and you see a hint of yesteryear actor Mithun Chakraborty’s ruggedly handsome looks combined with the sweet beauty of Yogita Bali. This, then, is another star son waiting in the wings to make his debut. The difference is that Mithun is not launching his son. Rather, he is standing by his son’s side and advising him as he takes his first cautious steps in the quicksand called films.

Mahakshay Chakraborty also known as ‘Mimoh’ Chakraborty has decided to follow his father’s footsteps and become an actor. And his father is right by his side, guiding his son in the treacherous sands of Bollywood. The first thing we notice about Mimoh is that he loves the camera. Golden hair flowing over his shoulders, the hunk poses unabashedly as his aging but still handsome father looks on proudly. According to Mithun, the name ‘Mimoh’ was chosen as his son’s screen name because it is easy to pronounce. And perhaps they are a combination of Mithun’s idols, Michael Jackson and Mohammed Ali?

21-year-old Mimoh is making his debut in He - The Only One. The mahurat was well-attended by Bollywood’s glitterati - as if to welcome Mithun and his son back into their fold. Mithun is famously known for retreating to Ooty, a tranquil hill station down south, after a tumultous career and personal life. Mimoh says he was excited and honored to have the blessings of so many older actors like Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. His first shot was okayed in one take.

In order to give his son an edge over other budding actors, Mithun made his son train in acting, fighting, dancing and direction at the Film Academy, Los Angeles. He decided that his son was old enough to handle the stress of an actor’s life. And he should know – Mithun’s was a rags to riches to story and though the actor was well known for his dark, handsome looks and dancing prowess, he never seemed to achieve a balance. It was only later, when he married Yogita Bali, that he found peace. Finally, he decided to distance himself from the madness of the film industry by moving to Ooty.

Mithun is his son’s best friend and worst critic. He shudders when he remembers his son’s first audition. The veteran actor was horrified. His son, though, says he only danced to one of his father’s number from the famous film Disco Dancer and accepts his father’s judgment positively. He was also persistent enough to hang onto his dream of becoming an actor and worked hard to achieve that. Mithun was impressed by his son’s determination and helped him out. Still, the demanding father says that his son will have to wait for about 10 years before Mimoh can call himself an actor.

Mithun also reveals that the secret of his son getting his first short okayed in one take was because he had promised his son an Omega watch! He then casually mentions that his daughter wants to be an actress too. He also seems more comfortable talking about his retreat to Ooty. Since many films were being shot in Ooty, the actor says he offered bulk dates to his producers if they shot in Ooty. He made more money that way, he reveals. His children got to grow up in tranquil Ooty, away from noisy Mumbai. And oh, by the way, Mithun will soon be seen on the silver screen in the Kalpana Lajmi-directed Chingari.

As for Mimoh, he hopes to make his father proud by becoming a famous actor. With his bloodline, it should be easy.
