A Shakespeare inspired multi-starrer set in the Hindi heartland or a spooky fairy tale inspired by a bedtime story? Here’s a look at what are your choices at the box office this week.


Shakespeare in Uttar Pradesh. After rechristening Macbeth as Miya Maqbool, filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj trains his eyes on the bard’s Othello and gives us Omkara, set in the Hindi heartland of Uttar Pradesh.
Obviously the story does not revolve around the moor and his generals but around a gang of outlaws who operate in the interiors of a politically volatile state.


Actors Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi and Saif Ali Khan play the bard’s boys in today’s India, and their love interests in the film are actors Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Konkona SenSharma, respectively.


If Maqbool was anything to go by then Omkara promises to remain true to Shakespeare’s work as an intense tale of blind passion, treason, jealousy and death.
