In an interview to the press Shah Rukh Khan revealed that Ram Gopal Varma had approached him for the role of Gabbar Singh. “That was three years ago. He had spoken to me about remaking Sholay. I had said yes to him. I don’t know what happened then but he never got in touch with me.” It is known that Ram Gopal Varma is planning to remake Sholay called Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay. The director has zeroed in on Amitabh Bachchan to essay the role of Gabbar Singh.


Katrina Kaif will play the role Jaya Bachchan did in the original. Abhishek was to do the role Dharmendra’s had played but later backed out because he was keen to do a film with Mani Rathnam starring Aishwarya Rai.
