Year 2005 saw several B-grade sex flicks end up as big box office draws. And the actors of these films into overnight stars.
And though it may not yet mean a sure shot formula to crack the box office, small filmmakers have not stopped making films with a weighty dose of sex & sleaze.
The trend has extended into 2006 as several ‘sex flicks’ have tried to set the silver screen on fire. Here is a recount.
Mr. 100%
Omprakash Makkar directed this film which starred Aryan Vaid, Mahima Chaudhary, Payal Rohatgia and Bobby Darling in the leads. The film did marginal business in the urban territories but ended up as a big grosser in the northern territory small towns.
Anjaan
The film revolves around a husband played by Vipul Gupta, wife Mahek Chahal and her extra-marital lover played by Shoaib. Th film was heavy on sexually explicit scenes and was released in February this year. It did average business at the box office.
Madhubaala
Shivram Yadav directed this film which stars Sameer Dharmadhikari, Nafisa Khan, Gurpreet Singh, Abhay Bhargava and Aditi Govitrikar in the leads. The film which released in March this year was much publicised for it’s overt scenes and dialogues.
Bobby- Love & Lust
‘Wet Bobby is coming to set your town ablaze’, said the tagline of the posters.
Rakesh Parmaar directed this film which tried hard but failed to make the audiences sit erect.
