Speaking to the electronic media in London, Bollywood actress and Celebrity Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty on Thursday came clean on the charges of racism that she had levied against former housemate Jade Goody.

Coming to Jade’s rescue, Shilpa said, “When Jade said things, she never even thought before she spoke.”


When asked if she thought Jade’s remarks were racist, the actress said, ”I don’t think it was racist. Though at the time when I said those words to Cleo, I thought it was being racist, but I am someone who is extremely pragmatic and I analyse things. And I want to believe that it wasn’t.”

Shilpa also reacted to some of the outbursts in India following Jade’s controversial remarks: “I am humbled, I am honoured by the solidarity shown to me by Asians all over the world, by the British audiences. I am choked.”

“A lot of Indians were angered when they thought that I had retracted my statement because Celebrity Big Brother told me to. But no, I didn’t. Like I said before and I say it again – my integrity and my honour is not up for sale,” she added.

Meanwhile, apart from other immediate engagements, the actress will be paying a visit to the Buckingham Palace in the coming week to meet Queen Elizabeth.
