Mumbai, May 6 : This is her third year at the Cannes International Film Festival and actress Sonam Kapoor plans to make a style statement in an Indian outfit at the red carpet there.

Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, accompanied by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, lit the ceremonial lamp at the opening ceremony of the 18th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) here Saturday.

The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) returns in its 43rd edition with a special showcase on the completion of a hundred years of Indian cinema. The cinema of the country which took its first steps with the stalwart Dadasaheb Phalke’s feature film Raja Harishchandra in 1913 will showcase a selection of movies from mainstream and regional Indian cinema along with a selection of world movies in its Centenary Year. The 11 Day Festival which kicks start on November 20, 2012, will be inaugurated by superstar Akshay Kumar.

It was reported a while back that Anil Kapoor, who is the ambassador for The Freedom Project, an organisation working to eradicate slavery and human trafficking, was working on a documentary for the same. The documentary which was made to create awareness about human trafficking in India, called Trapped By Tradition , recently won the Gold Prize in the Cultural Issues category at the New York Festival’s International TV and Film Awards 2012. The silver prize winner was the documentary by Hollywood actress Demi Moore, which focused on trafficking in Nepal.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra Film Festival commenced from yesterday with the premiere of the filmmakers 1989 film Parinda. The show was graced by eminent political personalities as well as screen celebrities those who had been associated with Chopra and his ventures.

Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor, who have shared sizzling chemistry in films like Beta, Khel, Ram Lakhan and Tezaab amongst others, will be walking the red carpet for the screening of their 1989 National Award winning super hit film Parinda at PVR Cinema Juhu on March 30th.
